They are called a non-renewable source as they cannot be made again, or are being used up faster than they are formed.Ĭrude oil was made from the bodies of plankton compressed over 260–650 million years. When these fossil fuels are used up there will be no more. The conditions on Earth are not the same as they were millions of years ago. Fossil fuels are finite resources because they are no longer being made, or are being made extremely slowly.
